just visitedMy first impression going into Tacoma, was busy. I grew up in Salem Oregon, but moved to a much smaller mountain town for the past 4 years. Does seem a little on the industrial side, but as with most places, you can find the more obvious richer areas. Thats where I would prefer to be moving there with 3 kids.OVERALL

TACOMA IS GREAT!!This is the place to be if you have vision. I moved to the Central 6th Ave area of Tacoma ten years ago when downtown was still a ghost town, homes on the South side of 6th Ave were still way under $100k and 13th & Tacoma Ave seemed like a smaller version of Los Angeles's "skid Row". Our ExperienceMy husband was stationed at Fort Lewis a while back. While we were searching for an apartment, I would ask the same question, what is the crime rate like here. Fair question in my book. Tacoma is my kind of town.I've lived in this city forever. Tacoma is going through a renaissance right now, it's an exciting time for us all. New restaurants are opening everyday, new homes and condos all over the city, even the parks are being upgraded. Best place to retireWe've lived in many places during our 52 years of marriage - but have loved this area the best of all. Moved here from Phoenix 30 years ago (job related) and only was supposed to be here 2 years - stayed until we retired and now after 30 years wouldn't leave for anything. So it rains - so what?

Nice city, but beware!I live in Tacoma. The city is ok. The northend is the place to be if your a left of center elitest. The Northend is very nice, people there have alot of money. The Southend has a very high crime rate, and is not the safest of places. It is true the cops will take along time to respond or not resond, depending on how they prioritize the call.

Give Tacoma a TryIt is true that Tacoma had a history and reputation of, "the aroma of Tacoma" with a high level of industrial pollution, but no more.
Today the city is charming, very clean and the downtown is well into a complete transformation and, yes the "aroma" is gone.

Can wait to get outThis city was a serious shock when i moved here. The only good thing that has come of my move is the commute to Fort Lewis. Other than that, the city is dirty, unsafe and boring. I refuse to work after 8pm because the parking lot is unsafe to walk in. There are panhandlers on every corner and cars broken into at least once a week. Tacoma foreverTacoma has everything you'd need in a medium size city; nice parks, nice people, good restaurants (my favorite is Shennanigan's), an awesome waterfront, excellent museums, UW, point defiance park...
I'd recommend to visit Tacoma during the summer because the weather is perfect, not too hot and not dump, and almost sunny the whole summer; then if you're a rain maniac you have the remaining 3 seasons to enjoy it!!!You did not find this review helpful.4 of 5 Yahoo!
