I grew up in Newport Blues and it was an awful city during most of my time there. Boring, nothing to do, lots of traffic and a Southern feel that most Northeasterners aren't accustomed to. But every few months when I go back (from Baltimore), the city continues to grow in good ways. Nicer housing, more restaurants (not just chains) and the roads are improving. I think the city is improving tremendously.

Newport News, VA is so convenient to everything that Virginia and even North Carolina has to offer. We can be at Va. Beach or the Outer Banks in 2 hours or less. And the mountains are just over 2 hours away. If you love the outdoors than Newport News, VA is for you. I have lived here all of my life, and I cannot imagine living anywhere else.

Newport News has a variety of things to do from museums and shopping to fine dining and camping. Some of my favorite things to do are visiting The Living Museum on J.Clyde Morris Blvd. and shopping in Hilton Village or Patrick Henry Mall.
