galveston and bolivar are both great. the ferry ride was awesome, the kids loved it. the beaches were great and people were friendly. always ask a friendly local about the best places to eat. Queens, El Nopalito and Shrimp and Stuff were our favorites. Going back SOON
While Galveston still shows a lot of the scars from Ike, the beaches on the East end of the Island have been rebuilt, there is plenty of parking on the seawall and the water is clean and clear. Downtown is still empty but the strand is back and the city is beautiful as ever.

This was my first trip to Galveston and we loved it! Maybe we just got incredibly lucky but the weather was great, beaches pretty clean and uncrowded, good food. We plan on returning soon!
We had great weather during our February visit. The beach, although narrow, was clean for this time of year. Being able to eat swordfish on a balcony overlooking the ocean was priceless. Make the trip to Sea Wolf Park nearby to tour the WWII sub & destroy escort ship.

Awful...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/07
We visited in June of 2007. The beaches were terribly dirty and the water was dirty, red flags every day! NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS ON THE BEACH...NEAR THE BEACH...NOWHERE! This is amazing for a town built on beaches and tourism! We stayed in town and visited the Marina and Moody Gardens. Moody Gardens is overpriced, which is to be expected, but nothing ...

STRONG DECAYING FISH SMELL
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/07
The beach was so disappointing. The water was brown and left us dirty. There was a dead fishy smell that you couldn't get away from. The beach was cover in trash and sea weed?? piles that you had to walk through to get to the water.
I am from the Houston area so I've spent quite a bit of time in Galveston. If you don't have anything better to do and you're dying to go to the beach, then go. The water is brown and the sand is gray. If you have the choice to go to Port Aransas or South Padre Island, then definitely go to one of those spots. There are some good restaurants and The Strand area has some fun little shops.
I am not sure what is wrong with this site but even in editing I gave it a five star and it keeps showing up as a one star.We gave it a 5 star!!! We spent the month of Feb in Galveston. The people are so friendly the food is fantastic and the sites are Great!!!! For a small place it has so much to offer. We have traveled all over the world , all ...
