My family has vacationed all over Texas, and love the wide variety of terrain, scenery, and people. Big Bend turned out to be an exception to our normally wonderful Texas vacations. We stayed at the Chisos Mountain Lodge in July 2005. I found the people to not be very friendly, the accomodations to be equal to a slightly less than mediocre motel, ...
I have had some incredible times hiking off coutrour maps in the Big Bend terrain by the Rio Grande. Fascinating Geology, Turlingue is cool. Basically a great place to get away from pretty much anything and everything.
It was absolutely beautiful. I love the solitude and beauty it had to offer. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. It is hard to believe the difference between east and west Texas. When it was time to come home I nor my son wanted to return to east Texas. If you haven't been this is a must see place. We are looking forward to our next trip there already! :)
Altho it's in an area not visited often, it's worth the drive. If you love the desert, you'll love Big Bend National Park. We camped near the park, hiked in the park, and had dinner at the Chisos Mountain Lodge. Everything was wonderful. Temperatures were perfect for a mid March trip...just a little chilly in the evenings. We saw a ...

Great and beautiful place! We went during spring break, and stayed at Wildhorse Station in Study Butte. We hiked over 80 miles in one week. Most trails had almost no one on them except us (we are a family of 4). One day we rafted (raft from Desert Sports in Terlingua) on the Rio Grande and went into Mexico. A beautiful place even for the ...

My Favorite National Park
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/14/05
Big Bend NP is my favorite park of the 63 NPS units I've visited thus far. The desert is beautifully empty. The geology is astounding. Canoe the Rio Grande through Santa Elana Canyon (or "walk" your canoe through the canyon if the water level is low). Visit the hot springs and the cinnabar mine. Camp in the midst of volcanic ...

Best place to see in Texas!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/02/05
I've been to Big Bend several times and it is one of my favorite National Parks. The diversity of sights is inspiring. There is nothing like a Big Bend night for stargazing; from the Chisos Basin you can see thousands upon thousands of stars. Great hiking and camping; although a long hike, the trail to the South Rim of the Chisos is a must do.

Big Bend

My favorite place on earth. The former bottom of the ocean. Beautiful buttes. Sun rise and set. View from the porch in Terlingua. The locals. Beer in coolers. Sitting at a camp site, meditating. The rangers and park employees are wonderful. It is a privelage to live this far south with the view of Mexico ever so near. There used to be a ...
