Beaufort is Heaven on earth. From the people to the buildings to the landscaping to the food to the sights to see. No one will be disappointed when you visit this town. Beaufort is a nice little military (Marine Corp) town, but it is expensive and doesn't offer much except for a few historical sites and houses. The restaurants, motels, etc. are over priced and they don't have a decent beach or much entertainment. Many motels raise their prices on weekends. The shopping is typical "tourist" fare. Hilton Head is a better place to stay.

I loved the old town feel of this area. It is definitely transforms the soul. I traveled for a retreat with the Gullah Geechie nation. Queen Quet is a gracious host. It's great if you are just there for a quick visit but the locals ran us off. I have never been to a more rude place. But it is beautiful!

Beaufort is somewhat off the beaten path, but it is on the water. It has a historic downtown with great bars and restaurants that have terraces from which you can look at the water. For golfers, well, golf courses are everywhere. It offers all the amenities for boating, kayaking and fishing. It's a small town, with some of the inconveniences of small places, but it definitely is one of my favorites.

Beaufort is like a small Charleston, SC with a wonderful relaxed feeling. Everything runs on "beach time" which means you never have to feel rushed. The gorgeous views and historic buildings always leave me breathless.

The only thing not great would be the humidity and bugs, but hey, it's the south. What else would you expect? Bring along some sunscreen, wear light clothes, and put on plenty of bug spray.

Beaufort is a magnificient antebellum southern town.
