I went to Crater Lake during Thanksgiving. We spent only a few hours there but it was really worth it. The mountain looked really beautiful, being partially covered in snow. There was one foot snow all over the place. The lake wasn't frozen and there weren't any clouds. So, we really had a great view.
A Gem that is not talked about as much as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, etc. If you're travelling up or down I-5 and want a beautiful hiatus, go to Crater Lake!

I really loved crater lake and its wonderful sites. When you climb the mountain and look over near sunset, it is really romantic. I love the hiking and the hotels are good.
I've been to Crater Lake twice in the past two years. It's worth it every time! The views from the hotel are wonderful, especially if you have a lake view, but even if you don't! Absolutely beautiful! Impressive. Drove around the lake, which took us about 5 hours with all the stopping we did. Dozens of look out areas.
I would recommend taking your own lunch/snacks as their restaurant/cafeteria is undergoing renovations and they have moved the food concession area outside and all they have all hot dogs, chips and sodas. They are supposed to be done with that around Sept. 2005 but who knows if they will.
