  • nothing special
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/08
Don't go out of your way to travel here and don't bother to come here from a long distance unless you have to be here for a reason. The city is becoming less safe over the last year as robberies, thefts, and burglaries have increased. Be careful not to walk around in many areas by yourself or even in small groups at night. If you do come ...

  • Had to move here
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
The very first time I visited this city, I fell in love with it. It is a big city with plenty of small-town charm and hospitality. The natives are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of shopping, dining, night-life, and entertainment to satisfy anyone of any age group. The city cherishes the arts and has an arts district downtown that is ...

  • Lots of trees
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/05
It's nice because my family is there. I didn't like it because it's not a place I'd like to live in. The major cities surrounding Winston-Salem, have no nightlife. I went to a Starbucks and to a few other cafe's an they closed at 5pm!

Situated just evenly between the best of both worlds, Winston Salem is a great spot for a family getaway or to live, work and play. From Winston, you have great access to the Outer Banks and the great Appalachian Mountians. There is something for everyone...Great shopping, golf, NASCAR, colleges, employment, sightseeing, botanical gardens, food, ...

  • Great to visit or live
    By Jay, 09/16/05
I have traveled to many different places, Winston-Salem is still the best. It's close to beaches and mountains. It has Old Salem, with shops and the history of a town that's over 250 years old. Geat restaurants, Salem Tavern, Tavern on the Green, and Foothills Brewery to name a few.
If you like to play in a band there are plenty of different types of bands, symphony, church or start your own.
    Winston-Salem has something for everyone!

Went to school at Salem Academy located near Salem Collage in Old Salem--very interesting area. Still go often to shop at the Fresh Market--best grocery in the U.S.!

  • WS is great
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/21/05
Winston-Salem is a great town to visit. Great food, good shopping, close to the mountains and cool little towns. Old Salem is great, and so is Wake Forest University.
If I were going there, I'd plan to look around at some of the towns around it like Mount Airy (Mayberry in the Andy Griffith Show), Lexington (Bar-B-Que Capitol of the World), Boone (great little college town and sking), Asheboro (home of the NC Zoo).
