I have had the misfortune of living here for 4 years. These are the terms I use to describe New Bern; Backwards, Corrupt, Widespread Nepotism, Good-Ole-Boy Networked, Racist, EXPENSIVE, Boring, Polluted, Dishonest. Anything good? Carolina Bagels... that's about it.
If you hate your life and want a place where everyone is old , redneck or dumb as hell move here. I have lived here for 3 years and cant wait to move out . There is nothing to do and the only night life here is the hospital , wal mart, or Barffle house. downtown looks like a war zone and the moobern cafe told me there coffee was made at "10 am do you still want it?" and it was 8 pm when I ordered it. WTF?

Absolutely LOVED it!

New Bern is a quaint little town off the Neuse River. It has a lot of fabulous things to do and beautiful scenery. I loved the howntown atmosphere, little shops and great restaurants. It is a MUST SEE.
New Bern has a good family vibe to it. We took the kids downtown and had good time. Check out the pepsi place to see where it all started. We also came across a 2nd hand bookstore and the owner couldn't have been nicer. There was a place with awesome ice cream, called the MOO something, downtown--check that out for sure.

Since my first visit to New Bern I have been impressed with it's charm, beauty and hospitality. This is a remarkable city that is trying to be a vacation destination in the best way. Each time I visit I walk downtown and visit with the shop owners.
What we Yankees have to realize is the importance of slowing down and taking time to chat. ...
I have been to New Bern KOA twice last year. The first time quite by accident since I was late in reserving a site for Memorial Day weekend. The new owners of this campground have done a awesome job. The Campground is right off of Highway 17 and the only negative thing I can say is that there is now warning before you come upon the campground. I ...

i hate it here

the place is too crowded, people are mainly retired and very unfriendly, the water taste nasty, there is only one walmart in the area, the city cops look for reasons to pull you over, if you have lots of money to pay petty fines you will be ok, the best comunity in the area is the james city area
New Bern is a quirt laid-back southern town. LOts of culture and family activities. Located near Atlantic Beach, Cherry Point AFB and Camp Lejune in Jacksonville. Downtown New Bern is an antique shopper's dream. THe park and harbor is magnificient. I would recommend New Bern to famililies, or couples seeking a nice quiet getaway. No night life you would have to travel to Goldsboro, Greenville, or Jacksonville to party.
