A great small town much like tthe fictional Mayberry. Having been born and reered in a large city this is the perfect "escape from reality". Reading the other riviews I agree some things are kind of far away but if you're looking for a true escape/return to what this great country used to be Burnsville, NC it the perfect place for you.

I moved from Burnsville after 50 years of living here....and I loved the location I moved to and saw clearly allot of Burnsville's problems...however, since moving back, I realize that one needs to be a nature lover...enjoy quiet...find old traditions and families still worth value....Burnsville is a place for an artist and crafter with so many ...

Beautiful Area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/05
What a peaceful town located in the center of many NC mountain activities. Do not expect much out of the town center except for groceries etc. Beer and Wine is a 20 minute drive. The people are very friendly. This town will soon be found out. Rent yourself a mountain cabin and enjoy.
my husband and i moved to burnsville from atlanta ga and we spent three years living there but as you have read in other reviews there is nothing to do except for site seeing and over priced shops we loved the quite but we had to move back home to our home town it is a gost town and the people there will never change but if you ever get the chance to ride through do so you will love the colors

Such a friendly place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/19/05
My husband and I visited Burnsville, and we absolutely loved it. The people are just amazing, and the whole town looks like something out of a painting. I do feel sorry for the kids as there truly is no "nightlife," but it's an incredible place for anyone who doesn't need to go out every night.

A place to remember
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/04/05
Very quaint beautiful town, people go out of their way to make you feel at home. Very old fashioned, the teenagers still cruise around the town square! Stayed at a very clean inexpensive motel on main street, Carolina Country Motel, good family atmosphere, very safe. Beautiful places to hike and see waterfalls. If you love nature this town is for you, otherwise stay in the city!.

A redneck's paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/26/05
Burnsville (and all of Yancey County, for that matter) is as dead a town as you'll ever see. There's absolutely no night life there unless you consider cruising "the square" to be fun. If you like old-fashioned redneck arts and crafts you might enjoy the place though. All Main Street has to offer is an array of quilt shops and overpriced regional artworks. Avoid this place unless you have no other choice.
