We were shocked at this tacky little city. The downtown area is a collection of a few good art galleries along with a lot of new age hippy. Supposedly the restaurants were good here. NOT. The food is unrefined trade school food. Flavor combinations and preparations were horrid and untrained in every place we tried. It seems every restaurant had a ...
Asheville too avant-garde-flash back to the 60's- street performers, burning incense in stores, hippies or want to be hippies. Roads congested, highway signs confusing, mountains not that impressive once you've been to Banff Canada. Dogs everywhere. Seen it - won't be back-sorry.
Asheville Is Dirty. Nasty an very RUDE ! It is a SPEEDTRAP! I-40 construction is used for a speed trap zone as is I-26 both sides of Asheville Lot of the main roads are also speed traps........ NEEDLESS TO SAY I WON'T BE BACK TO THAT TOWN

Not impressed with the Ashvillites

Lots of hippies, but without the love! Found most locals I met to be unfriendly...I guess I should not have smiled and tried to engage them in conversation with a Chicago accent. Decided to go to historic McCormick Field and watch a Tourists baseball game - the locals seated around me had no interest in watching the game, knew nothing about ...

Having lived all over the country....years in Houston, Asheville is heavenly. The great thing about A'ville is that it is diverse in culture...something for everyone. And people here, love it and are friendly....I have no desire to live anywhere else.

Asheville has lots to offer because of its uniqueness. Several B&Bs in old homes of the upper middle classes...Biltmore House...mountain views & climate...Savoy restaurant...Grove Arcade..."antiques"...funky art. Nearby Black Mountain has nice little shops, as does the upscale Biltmore Village. Don't like ...

I grew up in West Asheville and could not wait to move. Here is the demographic: 1.Rednecks, 2. Hippies, 3.Liberals, 4. Professional waiters, 5.Super rich vacationers. Me as a middle class college graduate clearly did not fit in. I moved to Raleigh where middle class is the way of life - good schools, plently of jobs (still), and good ...
I spent two weeks here on a cycling training camp leading up to a big race. The first thing i noticed was the difference in climate to Los Angeles. As it was summer it was very warm. The humidity was crazy! Asheville is a beautiful city surrounded by some pretty spectaculay scenery as it is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. My favourite ...
BYPASS THIS TOWN AND GO ON INTO TNN. THE MOUNTAIN VIEWS HERE ONLY LOOKS LIKE HILLS OF OVER PRICED HOMES ON SIDE OFF STEPP CLIFFS. EVERYTHING IS HIGH IN VALUE AND MADE BY CHINA. NO SMALL CHARM HERE JUST A BUNCH OF CRACK HEADS. CRIME IS HIGH WATCH YOUR BACK BECAUSE YOU WILL GET STABED OR SHOOT. THE TV NEWS WLOS IS VERY WERD PEOPLE AND THEY HAVE NO GOOD RADIO STATIONS HERE THERE VERY WERD TO. STAY OUT IS MY BEST ADVISE.
My husband and I have a membership to tour the Biltmore each year, you have got to go through the seasons it is amazing! Asheville itself is pretty awesome, lots of dining choices, lots of shopping like in the Biltmore village, big mall, and beautiful mountains for hiking. We live in Virginia so this is an easy weekend trip for us.
