I've been to Guilderland twice, and I must say, if you want to get away from it all, this is the place to come to. The scenery is beautiful and you can see wildlife. Also, Lake George which is driving distance from Guilderland is one of the maost gorgeous lakes I have ever been to. It doesn't have all the perks of a big city, but believe me, once you visit you won't miss the big city at all.
