Albany is a fun place to visit for a day or two. The empire state palza is always a fun place to be. The NY state museum is also very interesting. I recomend going to the top of the Corning Towere since it offers a complete view of the city. The Ny stae capitol is also a good place to visit. If you have some spare time go to the riveside and take a quick strool.
I drove through Albany and saw the different neighbourhoods. It was rather shocking to see the huge differences. The people there are not very friendly, we had to ask multiple times for someone to give us directions. We could NOT find our destination, and wound up spending the afternoon at our hotel. I would not recommend Albany as trip-destination number 1.

If you like bars, drinking, litter, crime, and bordem this is your city. Downtown is a joke. I challenge anyone to walk Central Avenue day or night. Albany's population is decreasing the majority of the monies spent have been state or federal not private.
The Empire State Plaza is a great complex I took guests from Connecticut while walking ...
I like NY City, however, for me it's just a place to go and have fun. However, Albany, I am totally in love with Albany. It reminded me so much about home. The mountains, fresh air, trees all around. It was just a lovely place to be. I can see myself living in Albany.

Vacation in Albany, NY?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/05
Has anyone said let's go to Albany, NY for our vacation?
I went to Albany to visit a friend and take a mini vacation. Within one day I ran out of things to do!
Negatives: Albany is boring, crime is everywhere, streets littered, homeless near the state buildings begging, limited choices for dinner-entertaining!
Positives: Rich-History, ...

Nightlife in the Albany Area...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/05
I loved the college environment, but if you are over 21 (especially if you are over 25) you want something a little more laid back, you want somewhere to hang out where it's not a bunch of drunk kids slobbering all over you. Albany has very few of those places, but while I was there me and my fiancee went to an event sponsored by ...

Historical city on an ancient sea bed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/05
Albany is one cool venue! We find the historical old Dutch settlement - now a beautiful small American city - to be a northeastern charm. The restaurants are diverse, intimate, and of great quality and value. There is just enough mix of ethnic and traditional European cuisine and atmosphere to make an evening out a delight. The myriad new brew ...
Jack's Oyster Bar Restaurant is a landmark in downtown Albany, New York. Open 365 days a year for lunch and dinner - you can always count on excellent service; classy surrondings and a fabulous meal from Chef Dale Miller. My wife and I always count it a treat to have dinner there.

From a local perspective

The Albany Aqua Ducks are relatively new to the area but offer a great service with a historic tour of downtown and a trip into the Hudson River for a narrated cruise. The North Pearl Street area is great for nightlife and feature many bars/restaurants, many of which offer live music Friday and Saturday nights. As far as hotels go, your best ...
