Portsmouth has a very friendly, helpful Chamber of Commerce, with maps, info and advice. Take the self-guided walk to see all facets & sights in Portsmouth.. Strawbery Banke is great also. I must have walked a total of 5 hours, taking in everything! Dump your car in the big parking garage and go all day on foot...very convenient!
If you yearn for the old sailing days, Portsmouth is your place! There have been some really interesting aercheological findings about how people lived in the whaling days and old ships uncovered. We were only there for the day but Strawberry Bankes is quite a nice time. Reminiscent of Quincy Mart in Boston, it's not as crowded and, even though we were there the last time in winter, it was quite pleasant and bracing. Take a coat!
I lived in Portsmouth for 3 years, and truely enjoyed it. It IS a small town, with easy access to Boston and Portland - that's hard to beat. Classic New England, steeped in history, with a young, hip slant to it. I can't wait to go back for a long visit, maybe permanent. Molly McGuire's for breakfast with the Boston GLobe!
Portsmouth is a really cute town in NH. It's on the seacoast, easy to acces from I-95 (1h away from Boston, MA). There are around 60 restourans for all kind of food. You can take cruises to Iseland of Shaws or you can go watch the whales. The history is great. usually there are historical walks every Friday evening and don't miss the Strawberry Bank museum. There is a great park - Prescott park, where you can enjoy an outside play.
Our family had a great time visiting different places while on vacation here in Portsmouth NH. All because I found out that one can go whale watching on a 4 mile strip of coast line. The people here r great at what they do; so much that we r going back again. Even to the same places and to do the same things. Never have I planned such a great ...
Not many people (stleast that I've met) know about this great little place. It's so quaint and comfortable. It easy to access everything in town and finding free parking is pretty easy. The Oar House is a great place to eat. Ask for a window table overlooking the port. The Thomas Laighton is a great cruise and affordable. Dover has nice ...

Lived there, loved it, would move back in a heartbeat!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/05/05
Portsmouth is a small city, a thriving center of art and culture, surrounded by exquisite examples of NH's rich colonial history. One could spend a lazy day strolling through the art galleries and the small shops, bookstores and boutiques that fill Market Square, settle beneath the trees at an outdoor table of one of the trendy cafes gazing at ...
