Great place to see fantastic views of poor people, criminals, and rusty cars. I've lived in several other states and Lansing is truly an armpit. Lansing was bad before the auto industry died, and now it's much worse. East Lansing (a seperate town) is nice for the under 25 kids to party at since it has MSU. Lansing itself has nothing going for it.

Gray. Gloomy. Barren.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/07
Lansing is a decaying blue-collar city that resides under a seemingly permanent shell of lead-colored drabness. Its murky rivers wind through decrepit, aging buildings from a bygone era. Once the GM plants die, so will the city. The only good thing that could be said about Lansing is that it is NOT Detroit.
I grew up in Lansing at it was a wonderful place to live. I've since relocated to Chicago, but only because of the robust job market that a major city has to offer. If I move back to Michigan, Lansing would be the only place I would consider. It has a lot of great charms to it, I just hope that the city can find a way to revamp the downtown area and attract new industries to offset their dependence on General Motors. Go Lugnuts!

Lansing is getting better, fast.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/16/06
Lansing is just like any other post-industrial midwestern town, it's is recovering from some tough times. But it is beginning to recover, revitalization is becoming more popular and the downtown is becoming nice again. Although the entire metro is only a little over 500,000 the feel of the city tends to be of one larger, the Lansing metro as a ...

Lansing's not all bad - just somewhat
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/11/06
Now that I haved moved away, I can see Lansing for what it's worth. I grew up in Lansing, I like it, but it's definitely a dying town. There are some nice parks, bars, it's close to MSU, a small downtown area, but really it's just gloomy and depressing. The school system is a mess and school of choice is destroying the surrounding ...

Boring, Barren Wasteland for Kids
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/10/06
The best thing about Lansing is that my kids live there. I travel to Lansing once a month from New York for visitation with my 2 daughters but find it exceedingly hard to find things to do with them. The weather is abismal and there are so few things to do for kids that we often travel to the Detroit area, Ohio, and Indiana for kids activities. ...

Underground Needs to Come to the Surface!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
Lansing is an interesting city -- extremely talented musicians and artists, a strong gay community, some quirky and unique businesses scattered about, BUT little to no coherence or sense of identity. The strong dependence on the auto industry seems to make the general outlook on life unpredictable at best, and discouraging at worst. To a newcomer ...

Cool City!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/05
This city has so much to offer. So many kinds of live music at its venues, lots of ethnic and "American" food choices, and very friendly people.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/05
I lived in Lansing for 18 years. I lived on the south side, it's a really gotten alot cleaner and more business' have made there home with us over the past 3-4 years. The economy is growing and the cleanliness is getting better. I now live in San Diego, and I never miss a oppertunity to come back home for awhile! The winters might be a ...
