As the tee shirts say, “Yes, There Really IS a Kalamazoo!” It’s the kind of name that makes you want to stop and see what’s going on. Kalamazoo is an Algonquian Indian word meaning “boiling pot” and the city has gained fame through celery, taxi cab production, Gibson guitars, the Upjohn “friable ...

WMU grad - good place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/07
I grew up in Ohio, but spent 6 years at WMU for college and grad school. The downtown of K-Zoo is pretty good for restaurants, old shops, theaters, and just seeing some history of the city. The north side is a bit run down and there are some areas to avoid along the BUS US-131 corridor north of Mich. Ave. The winters are long, cold, and K-Zoo ...

Warning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/08/06
We moved here 3 years ago and what a mistake!! This place has very basic shopping with poor quality and little to no choice. Dining here is awful - poor service and very poor food choices. There is basically nothing to do or see. Festivals are a joke. Summer programs for kids are poor quality. AND schools are absolutely terrible. We ...

Eh, bar town
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/28/05
I go to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. There is quite a nightlife in Kalamazoo, if you like to drink. If you love spending your money frivolously on alcohol in hopes to meet someone that you might call special, then Kalamazoo is the one stop destination for you. Kalamazoo is like a big city, lacking nature and splendor, minus the big. ...

Good Ole K-zoo!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/05
I love the atmosphere of Kalamazoo especially. Downtown Kalamazoo is quaint and full of interesting restaurants and shops. I like how you get a big city feel from Kalamazoo without the fear. Kalamazoo has an "outdoor" mall, which is great, and there are a wide variety of other stores to choose from throughout Kalamazoo and Portage. ...
I like every thing about the hotel! It's beautiful, centrally located and just all around great place to be while visiting Kalamazoo. Great place for wedding receptions as well. Food was good and employees were very accomidating.
