  • The most bewitching trip ever!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/07
My family has been going to Salem for the past 3 years. We stay at the Salem Waterfront Hotel and and just love it! It is in walking distance to everything. I can't say enough good things about this historic town. We love Salem Beer Works, Victoria Station and the Brothers Deli. This past summer we took the new pedicabs around and it was ...

  • The real truth
    By Amy, 08/13/07
I've read all the reviews listed here and am a little upset with some. This is a wonderful town full of all kinds of history.

We just returned from our second trip to Salem (we went last year also, had such a great time that we went back and spent even more time there).

Every city has its own history, we have to respect that and ...

  • Go Beyond the "Touristy"
    By mrksgrl, 07/14/07
Loved our recent trip to Salem. Here are some hints to make your trip as wonderful as ours:

    1. Wear excellent walking shoes. Nearly everything is within walking distance, but your feet will thank you.
    2. Go beyond the tourist traps and seek out the true historical landmarks. Be sure to seek out Danvers, the site of the real Witch Trials.
    3. ...

  • Not a Family Place and Not Worth the Money!!
    By BrandyG, 11/04/06
    1) Too expensive. I don't mind paying $ for something worthwhile, but this was a bit over the top. The House of the Seven Gables!? Forget about it. Ridiculous price, not child (family) friendly, don't even think about bringing them, but they will collect that money, you can be sure! Very small place. Nothing like a Plymouth ...

I go to Salem every year with my sister!! We always have the best time!! There is sooooo much to do and so much history!! You have to check out the Hocus Pocus tour! I have been on a few walking tours and the Hocus Pocus tour is by far the best! I plan on going on it every year... Salem is amazing!!

  • Depends on what you want to see
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/06
I visited Salem yesterday for the first time. It is a charming town, from what I could see. If you are wanting the fun and excitement of being in Salem during the witching month, then definitely go in October. I felt like this little town had become a tourist trap, much like New Orleans does during Mardi Gras. There were lines for everything ...

  • Salem has a lot to offer!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/06
I'm a student at Salem State College, but not from the area, so I'm still a bit of a tourist. Salem has a lot to offer - it is a small city with good history and culture. Downtown is very cute - brick roads and white Christmas lights on the trees. There are lots of cute little shops to poke your head into, I'd recommend that if you ...

  • Enjoyed the whole town!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/03/06
Best to park as i did in an all-day garage, and walk the whole town! I did not bother with the tourist-y Museums, but the Hawthorne House was worth the entrance fee, and their gift shop is heavenly! Lots of outdoor vendors for souvenirs, and wonderful deli's and restaurants. Pickering Wharf and Salem Woods are good places to walk, photograph and enjoy a visit to this wonderful town.

  • tragic event trivialized
By the no name cowboy, 09/01/06
about the only worth while thing in this whole town is The House Of The Seven Gables which costs 12 bucks to get into which is one big problem with this town-too man pricey entry fees. The town has taken a tragic event and turned into disneyworld with cheesey theme museums of dubious historical accuracy. It is unfortunate a great writer like Nathaniel Hawthorne is associated with this place.
