Born and raised in Monroe, La. It was not so bad when I lived there 27 years ago. The neighborhood where I grew up looks horrible. Some of the able-bodied people need to do something about the neighborhood. It looks really gross. The only reason I visit is because I have relatives still "stuck" there. Childhood memories are all I have.

Unfortunately, I was stuck in Monroe for a couple of years. There is NOTHING to do, unless you enjoy going to wal-mart and the mall everyday. There is no culture and the arts are almost non-existent. The paper mill adds a smell to confirm you have arrived in hell. The police are unreasonable and abuse their power. They are in the news virtually ...

This city is great for older people. The city provides many retirement homes for the elderly. There is not enough entertainment for the size of this city. Their clubs are great, but their police is very strict and mean. Its a city for OLD FOLKS!

I just loved Monroe. The southern hospitality is just humbling. I visited their Gardens and Zoo. The Ark-La-Miss Fair was just arriving upon my departure, but it looked like so much fun. They having brewing companies and papermills. For those who like shopping as much as I do, the Pecanland Mall was also a nice treat, including their many sublet shopping centers.
