Love the people, the atmosphere, the whole mining town was gorgeous. The people that owned the Grand Imperial Hotel where we stayed were from Missouri also, so we caught them up on a few things. We visited Silverton by train. The trip from Durango is great and worth the time and money. Visiting Silverton was like taking a trip back in time. Many of the old buildings are still in use. The dirt streets reminded us of the old western towns you see in the movies. Lunch at the Shady Lady Saloon was inexpensive and very good.
We rode the train to Silverton, and was not disappointed. A lot of shops for the wife to amuse herself with. I took Pictures. A fantastic Ice Cream cone at San Juan Sweets! 1 scoop in a waffle cone was $2.50, and it was LARGE! Had triple chocolate. Took awhile to eat it.
