This isn't Santa Barbara, you won't find a bunch of Ken and Barbies running around. This is more of a slightly blue collar, pretty beachtown with an edgy feel to it. Almost everybody I ran into had full sleeve tattoos. The beaches are clean and wide and it is very walkable to downtown. Downtown certainly has a bit of the bohemian, ...
Just got back. Nightmare. Tacky lobby. Inattentive staff. Slack restaurant. "Ocean-view," my ass. Loud halls. Doors that don't seal. Housekeeping that leaves your door open. Management that doesn't apologize for housekeeping leaving your door open. And a lobby-shop that was out of sunscreen. And the VISA gift cards promised.
What a rip.
Run away.

Venture to Ventura
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/06
Ventura is a really easy-to-navigate, quaint beach town. It's an unpretentious place with a downtown that exudes character. The hotels are reasonable and many have nice ocean views. If you like to stay right on the beach, try the Holiday Inn. The beach itself is one of the best in Southern California and the beachwalk that follows the coast ...

Great beaches
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/27/05
I really like Ventura. We were able to find parking with not a ton of trouble. REally cool beach. Not too crowed, just perfect. I felt like it was really clean to, unlike places in Los Angeles. Go visit.
