I've been out to Los Angeles three times, and my favorite vacation spot has been Santa Monica. Cool ocean breezes, the beach, the pier, shopping, and public transportation are just excellent. Maybe we loved it so much because if was our first romantic getaway w/out the kids - but you can't beat the weather there and it's such a great town. The Promenade is awesome shopping. Very trendy, modern place to visit. Lots of unique shops as well as the more chain store shops. Loved the pier and beach area. It was a beautiful beach area.

As a woman who has visited Santa Monica on numerous occasions in the past 4 years, I have to say that I have never felt threatened by the homeless who unfortunately inhabit the area. Having lived in large cities for most of my adult life, I guess I am just used to seeing the homeless. Just say sorry, no money and keep walking. Easy as that. And ...

I grew up in the are and always went to the beach here as a kid. Now I live in the midwest and brought my teenagers and stayed in Santa Monica for a few days.

It was a great vacation. Weather was perfect, we went to the beach in the morning before the crowds--the water was perfect.

What a great neighborhood! My wife and I went out to LA for the first time (we're East Coast people) and it was great. Santa Monica was not only beautiful, but so convenient to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu, etc. Anyone that is coming in front out of town, I strongly recommend staying in Santa Monica. You will not be disappointed.

Like other reviews have stated, Santa Monica has lost it's charm. It's overrun by the homeless, the beach is crowded, parking and traffic is a serious problem, and it's not just a 'janut' away from Beverly Hills and Dodgers Stadium.
