I live in Salinas and i love it. Downtown also known as OldTown Salinas is a fun and relaxing place to go. Recently i went to the Holiday Parade of Lights which is a parade through Central Salinas. It was really fun and many people enjoyed it. There are plenty things to do, such as going to the movies in the new multiplex Maya Cinemas in front of ...

Overall a great place to live, work, and play
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/07/06
What I like about this City is the nice people all around. I love many of the Downtown restaurants and going to the new Maya Cinemas in front of the National Steinbeck Center. Not too long ago my family and I went to watch a movie there and parked at the new four level parking garage at night at the top floor. The view of the city was great; the ...

They are trying....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/14/06
Salinas is actually doing a lot to try to improve the city, as of now there really isn't that much to do. However they have recently added a farmers market, and Old Town now has a slew of activities, aimed mostly at the older crowd. The city is attempting to expand and increase tourism, but there is a gang problem that is pretty serious. Until the city adds more things to do my review won't change, perhaps in the future it will.

Not much to do
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/14/06
Salinas has fairly decent weather, it is never to hot or too cold. It is in a pretty good location a quick 20 minutes to Monterey, about 35 from Santa Cruz, 50 from San Jose (you get the picture). Anyway Salinas really has nothing to set it aside except for the fact that author John Steinbeck was from here (as is cartoonist Van Partible), The ...

The major options are bowling or bingo...which is great if you are pushing 30. There is also no culture here, no good independent bookstore (the closest is probably in Santa Cruz), no restaraunts have anything remotley close ...

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/09/05
I had to come into Salinas to see a play by The Paper Wing Theatre Company at the Fox Theatre in Oldtown Salinas. It was awesome! But, the wonderful surprise came when we by chance happened upon the event First Fridays Art walk in Old Town Salinas. What fun! We saw so many wonderful pieces of art displayed in the various hospitable merchants in ...

Not my first choice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/14/05
Very poor traffic control for a small city. If you don't speak Spanish you will have trouble getting around. (Actually I do speak some Spanish.) I felt a serious resentment from the Mexican majority. Not comfortable with security in this town.

Come for the weather, stay for the food.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/17/05
Lived here all my life and must tell you that the weather here is the most wonderful anywhere that I have ever traveled, very mild all year long. The location is fantastic, Monterey, Carmel, San Francisco, Big Sur are all around the corner. Salinas is currently experiencing problems with gang violence, the local government is trying hard to ...
