I had heard much about Mendo, but was really suprised by how sleepy the town is. It is really just a three block walking town. Full of nice art galleries. There are things to do like canoe or kayak or hike along the estuary. There are a couple good restaurants and local pubs. But definitely meant for a low key, quiet type of family get away. ...

Something different
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/07/06
Small bed and breakfast hotel.
Disappointed that main SR 1 was between hotel and sea. Also no close access to get down to any beach.
Hotel was clean and friendly with excellent breakfast.
Nice area with superb state park to north of Fort Bragg. Hotel in fact is just south of Fort Bragg.
Disappointed with food in Fort Bragg - overpriced and not good value.
Mendocino a short drive away and is a must for any visit to the area.

Staying in Mendocino
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/05/06
We just finished a wonderful 3 night stay in Mendocino over the Labor Day break. This is a fantastic area for those seeking a relatively quiet and relaxing time to get away from it all.
The town is quaint and small; virtually shut down after 5 but crowded and busy in the weekends with those stopping by.
We stayed at the Sea Rock which had ...

Dining Suggestions

Enclosed is my recent list of good to excellent dining options (including a couple to avoid) in the Mendocino/Ft Bragg area.
For a romantic/beautiful & special setting with good service & excellent food, try the restaurants at Albion River Inn or Little River Inn. Both are "can't miss".
For lunch, Frankies Ice Cream ...

Favorite Place on the Planet!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/21/06
My favorite place and I have been alot of places! The town is lovely, romantic and sits atop of a cliff overlooking a breaktaking view of the pacific. There is no nightlife to speak of just pure relaxation & romance. For the nightlife look just a short 2 miles to the north in Fort Bragg. The shops are unique and fun to wander in even if you arent a ...

Best Value in Mendocino
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/05
Pacific Mist Inn is the hidden value in Mendocino. Where else in Mendocino can you have your own private 2 bedroom vacation rental cabin for under $200? Plus your own private deck, fireplace, and the amazing spa in the forest with a view of the ocean? Peaceful, yet only 2 minutes from the famous Van Damme Beach and Park, and only 5 minutes from the Village of Mendocino. We go back every year.
We spent part of the Labor Day weekend up in Mendocino, and had trouble finding a place to camp due to the high volume of abalone fishers in the area. Abalone are their own story, but it was a lot of fun to hear about the great delicacy that is oh so hard to describe. We stopped at the pygmy forest on the way in, which was not a must see (we ...
