  • Way better than Tahoe!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/22/06
Although it took us 4 hours from the Bay Area, the extra hour drive was well worth it. Chester is right next to Lake Almanor, but not quite so secluded. We stayed at the Timber House Lodge and got a terrific value on a room with 2 beds, very comfortable for $89. The restaurant is a gorgeous old structure made from gigantic trees and was totally ...

Good hunting and motor cross training or just for fun. Small town everybody knows everyone. Small gift stores. You can go tubing down the cold cold river. Snowboarding is ok. Fun for the family. You can bike rider.

  • Visit Here Now!! Before it gets Crowded
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/28/06
Chester Lake Almanor is the gem of Northern California. We stayed at the Chester Manor Motel and we highly recommend it. We came up to play in the snow and it was fabulous! They have all these snowmobile parks, and the people at the soon to be Rose Quartz Inn were fabulous and gave us tons of options and reviews based on our level of experience ...

  • Great little hidden gem...especially for families
    By Yen, 09/06/05
What's not to like (except for the five hour drive from SF)? Small, friendly town on Lake Almanor. The lake is man-made and very family-friendly without the crowds of lakes closer to SF and LA. Especially if you stay away from the Peninsula country club area.

Definitely worth a visit, lots of vacation home options - and check out Cynthia's restaurant and Lassen Volcanic National Park if you visit!

  • A hidden little gem
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/09/05
Chester is a fun old town on beautiful Lake Almanor, mostly undiscovered and charming as can be.

Maybe I shouldn't even be telling you about it!

Great for fishing, hiking, and getting away from all city-life stress.
