Good hunting and motor cross training or just for fun. Small town everybody knows everyone. Small gift stores. You can go tubing down the cold cold river. Snowboarding is ok. Fun for the family. You can bike rider.

What's not to like (except for the five hour drive from SF)? Small, friendly town on Lake Almanor. The lake is man-made and very family-friendly without the crowds of lakes closer to SF and LA. Especially if you stay away from the Peninsula country club area.
Definitely worth a visit, lots of vacation home options - and check out Cynthia's restaurant and Lassen Volcanic National Park if you visit!
