Very nice and interesting city. We took the 8-hr tour where we were bussed all the way to the Yukon, Car Cross, and then took the train back to Skagway, where we still had time to wander around downtown. Among our travel to Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, this was the high-light of the trip. The tour guide, Bruce Schindler, was very knowledgeable, humorous, helpful, and really fun to be with.
I moved to Skagway mid April of 2005, a 19 year old Iowan. lol. We flew from Minneapolis and the flight was fabulous. Friends picked us up in Whitehorse Canada and we drove through the mountains into Skagway. The only road in or out!! I was surprised to find a quiet little town that was 21 blocks long and about 6 blocks wide. My first ...
We visited Skagway for the second time in the summer of '05. We flew into Juneau and then took the Alaska Marine Highway System ferry from Auke Bay to Skagway. It was a beautiful sunny day in the 80s. The six hour voyage up Lynn Canal was like a cruise. Lots of beautiful scenery, glaciers, waterfalls, WHALES, bald eagles.
We checked the ...

We will go back...

I loved Skagway. Quaint little town with lots of history. The "..Days of '98" show was really good. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The Yukon/White Pass rail was also really nice. Both were well worth the money. Shopping was nice here. Plenty of choices. Only one small inconvienence--we had plans well into the afternoon and shopping ...
Klondike Candy & Eatery has the best homemade candies and foods. I would die for their BBq Beef Brisket recipe! The place is a little hid though, you have to go thru the Skagway Bazarr into the courtyard to find it. Great food, Cappuccino's, and Espresso's to die for AND friendly service what more could you ask for? There was no long lines either. A+++

Very nice town to visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/14/06
Skagway has an old town feel, with saloons, cafes and shops lining the downtown streets. I have visited as both a cruise ship passenger as well as on a road trip from the Yukon. On cruise ship docking days the town is very overcrowded and you'll wait longer for service, but if you're prepared for that, then it shouldn't dampen your ...

Skagway in Spring and Fall
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/05
I loved Skagway....I have been there a total of 6 times since 1993 on cruise ship vacations....I love the Fall close-out sales that the town has and the tail of Soapy Smith w/ The Days of '98 Show is really great and informative with humor too, those saloon girls just have soo much fun!! I am planning another cruise to Alaska in May '06 and am looking forward to all the nice, friendly people in all the ports of call.

Great port on a Cruise Vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/05
The sites and shops were fantastic! Not as overcommercialized as the other ports of Alaska. Would definately go back!!!!
I liked the overall "small-town" feeling in Skagway. The train tour was beautiful and very interesting if you're a history buff. Lunch at the Red Onion Saloon is quite entertaining and very authentic! I enjoyed the little shops in the town very much.

Summertime in Skagway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/10/05
The residents are friendly and helpful. Many activies for the sedaite visitor and the active. Very safe community for all ages. Forth of July activies the entire community turns out! Weather best late June through August. To much tourist based shopping. Most personal & speciality items are often purchased in Juneau, Whitehorse-Yukon and by mail or ...
