Just got back from an amazing Alaskan fishing experience. We stayed four nights at Talon Lodge which is located on it's own private island off the coast of Sitka. This is no ordinary fishing lodge. It's more like a five star resort Alaska style. Dinners in the evening included Rack of Venison, Filet Mignon, and of course Salmon. The ...

Sitka is just amazing. The scenery is fantastic, the people were extremely friendly, and the food was great. Be sure to stop at the Channel Club for drinks and/or a meal that will have you coming back for more. I was in Sitka for a week and ended up going back to the Channel Club 4 times. The atmosphere, the service and the food are four star in my book!
I managed to spend several months in Sitka 2002 and 2003. The area is beautiful. The people are friendly. I recommend going their to see the history about russian rule in alaska. A must stop is the Pioneer and Eddies bar. Be prepared though it is like stepping back in time 20 to 30 years.
I would like to go back sometime just to enjoy the scenary.
I love Sitka! It is the most charming city in Alaska. I love living in Juneau however Sitka is my favorite "getaway" weekend. Tour boats visit Sitka but when they are there in the summer they are docked off shore and don't overwhelm the charm! It is a beautiful city to fly into on a small plane. Multiple tiny islands are sprinkled ...
We traveled to Alaska in July 2005. Sitka was our first stop on the cruise. We did the Sea Otter Quest and Raptor Center Tour. We enjoyed both very much. We also walked the path at the National Park to see Totem Poles. The city is very nice. The Cathedaral is impressive and we enjoyed our walk around town. Sitka wasn't as commercial as Juneau and Ketchikan. Worth a visit.

My Favorite Place in Alaska
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/05
Sitka is a fascinating blend of history and culture and entertainment. I strongly recommend a walking tour for history and wildlife for an overview. Then visit the Bishop's residence, St. Michael's Church, and the quaint little shops, especially the Victorian House. Savor the succulent fish and chips for lunch and finally, be sure to ...
This small fishing town was one of them most friendly that we toured on our cruise. While shops offered some of the regular Alaska tourist fare, we found many shops that were simply ones that served the village people, day in and day out. There were many local places to get a bite to eat and the people were super friendly. We would have liked to have had more time there.
The Ultimate Adventure for the for those who love to fish.Just take in the beauty that Sitka and the Talon Lodge have to offer. Fish all day and then experience the food and comfortable service from the staff at Talon Lodge.
