Yes, it does rain a lot here, so be prepared. We made the mistake of booking a tour of Deluxe City Tour, and we could have done it ourselves (Salmon Hatchery and Bird Sanctuary, Discovery Center), except maybe Saxman Totem Village. Creek Street was fun to explore and very enjoyable. Lots of little shops to walk along. Unfortunately, we had only about 4 hours.
Ketchikan is a good place to visit and the people are friendly. however bring rain gear as Ketchikan is in the tongass national forest and is a rain forest. The average rainfall is 212 inches a year. Misty Fjords moment is a must see by float plan or boat.
We stopped in Ketchikan for a couple of hours on a Cruise in July '06. A couple of hours here was just NOT ENOUGH. It is a beautiful little town. We had several excursions planned and did not have near enough time to explore the beautiful little town on our own. The logging show is a MUST SEE. They really made it enjoyable--just like they show on TV. I'd go see that again. Great little town and I will return there...
Incredible scenary and friendly people are not all that Ketchikan has to offer. Like it is for most visitors, Ketchikan was a stop on an amazing Alaskan cruuse that I was on. The highlight of my vacation was a zip-line tour of the rainforest cannopy that I had there. Terror (well at least mild apprehention) and spectacular views of mountains, ...
I flew up on Alaska Airlines for the day. The scenery is beautiful, and the people are very friendly. I saw many bald eagles! Even though there were two cruise ships in town, it was not crowded. Saxman and Totem Bight state park are a must see. Also a drive to the north to settlers cove offers a nice hike and waterfalls. I am going back next weekend!

The best little city in the world!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/28/05
I flew up on Alaska Airlines from Seattle, Washington. I was expecting a horrible stay with family. Not the case. Some highlights were a trip my family and I went on into forest when we encountered a Brown Bear from our car. Another highlight was Creek Street, an ex-Red Light District. It's the neatest tourist shops I've ever seen. I also ...

Cold, rainy place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/03/05
Visited twice--fun to watch the salmon but is too often rainy. Visitiing areas is fun though--so many different places to see. My grandchildren whom I took sailing there loved their visit.
People are friendly; lots of things to do; scenery is awesome. Sunsets and sunrises are fantastic. The Misty Fjiords is a trip you will not want to miss. Try a float plane flight around the island. Visit the totem poles at Saxman and Totem Bight. The Discovery Center and bookstore is great. Take a hike up 3rd Avenue "Bypass" or Deer Mountain for some picture taking.
We booked a cruise to Alaska and had the best time of our lives in May of 2003. The cruise line provided excellent information on Ketchikan, Alaska. Most of the shopping was on wood stiltes. We found quaint shops and friendly people everywhere we went. The scenery was to die for. The parks were well maintained and clean. Colorful flowers and ...
