Loved the feeling that Denali national park gave us. We took the Denali train from Anchorage, stayed at the McKinley Chalet, and then took the Tundra Wilderness Tour all day the next day. Well worth it, though a bit pricey! Park rangers were friendly, helpful, and knew what they were talking about. We also were able to take in a Sleddog ...
Denali was a long drive from Anchorage. Whether or not it is worth the trip is really tough to say. There are no guarantees and the weather and animal sightings are more difficult than they seem. We only had one day that we could go to Denali, we lucked out because the weather was pretty nice. But the weather there is crazy, you have to ...
Great Hotel - located in Healy, AK about 10 miles north of park entrance. Clean rooms, include coffee pot, microwave, and refig. Well worth the extra drive
We took the bus tour. Never have I felt so close to God. we were able to observe a grizzly mother rolling on patches of snow with her cubs. The distance was far enough as not to upset the wildlife. Other highlights included a bald eagle, dall sheep& caribou.
We were awe-struck by the magnificence of Denali. The display of nature is unparalelled by anything we've seen, even topping the Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park.
We were told to go in late August/early Sept. or May and are glad we went the first week in Sept.
Next time we are going to include the day-trip to Barrow and the Arctic Ocean on Alaska Air!

Kantishna bus trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/02/05
We went on the long bus trip. It is beautiful but the buses are crowded, and when animals are spotted the people on the reverse can not see them. They are usually far away, although a bear did walk right along side our bus. That was the highlight.

Incredible Day - Not a cloud in the sky.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/05
Denali NP is incredibly beautiful and very well run. The bus rides are long but well worth the time. On the day I went (Aug 03)there wasn't a cloud in the sky so the views were amazing.
It was a lovely place. We made reservations three months ahead of time, paid in advance and were advised when we arrived that they were overbooked and we would be given a room at another resort. Talking to others at the check in, we discovered that a large number of paid clients had the same problem. I had personally phoned the resort directly and ...
cons: hard to drive in Pros: you get to see all sorts of animals such as bears fox dollsheep moose caribu. the animals sometimes cross the road in the park and you can take pictures. you can also take the train in and stay the night. you might get to see the nothern lights, and you get to see alot more stars than in the city.
