Too many tourists, too long lines, long wait, and everything at the top is expensive. You have to do it for the view, but try not to eat up there-- total ripoff. Go at dusk so you can experience the skyline during the day and at night.
Taking the tram up to Victoria Peak is an iconic Hong Kong experience. The tram ride itself is fun - it's a funicular that travels at an incredibly steep angle up to the peak. Interesting trip to top of HK Island

The Peak Tram gives you a view of HK Island from the side and top of Victoria Peak. Try to visit on a clear day if possible, it will allow for the best views at the top. I especially enjoyed the glimpse of how residents of HK live, since many of the high-rise apartment buildings are built right on the side of the mountain.
