Of all the places we've been to in HK, my whole family's hand's down choice for a place to stay when we return is Stanley. It is a quiet and a laid back place which is complete with everything that a traveler would like...The sun, the sea, the sand, and shopping...not to mention dining.
Highly recommended for the entire family and for couples who want a romantic escape from the noise and pollution of the city.
My favorite part of going to HK, been there 3 times and after the 1st visit always made sure to find time to go back on return trips. I think its more of the fact that it isn't quite and busy busy busy as the main part of the city but still plenty of things to see in the market and areas to wander to gather ones thoughts. Plenty of nice lil resto's to sit and have a bite to eat also. Looking forward to a return trip.

I liked Stanley because it was more peacful than being in the main part of Hong Kong all the time, I went to Stanley several times on my 5 week stay in Hong Kong. Loved it there and loved the bus ride.

stanley market
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/30/07
Stanley market was ok. I was not to impressed with the market myself. I was expecting to find all the latest fashion and hot deals. only to be hasseled and bum rushed when I turned every corner. I think the best market was the Night Market. I found great deals and super fashion.

Hidden treasure

I was born and raised in Hong Kong, but have been living in USA since 1975. Stanley to me was a remote area that was known for its correctional facilities. When I went home in 2005, my brother in law suggested Stanley as a place to visit, and to my surprise, it is a very quaint, relaxing, and yet having all convenience you need. To start off, ...

Souvenirs galore
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/09/07
Stanley Market was a great place to purchase souvenirs such as T-shirts, jewelry, scarves, children's clothing, and many other trinkets. Part of the enjoyment was the trip to Stanley along the curvy mountain roads that blanket the island of Hong Kong. Definitely worth the time and money because you can rack up with souvenirs all in one place! If you have ever been to a street fair or spent time in Chinatown in New York City, this is similar.

WELL WORTH THE BUS TRIP
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/20/07
There are some truly spectacular views to be had from the bus to Stanley.
Once there just soak up the great atmosphere. It's nice to just wander through the alley ways or along the beach front with it's spectacular views across the bay.
While the markets may not be the best (or cheapest) in Hong Kong,I've certainly found some ...
I like the location but the items for sale are too expensive. Better bargains can be found at the street markets in, say, North Point. Atmosphere is pretty good.

Two words to describe Stanley Market: Tourist Trap.
If you're going to Stanley Market, expect high prices and not that much haggling. Even though the prices are low when converted into USD and other currencies, there are better places to shop if you want those lower prices. I bought a pair of sunglasses in Stanley, and thought it was a good ...
