Was not air conditioned, for an older person, this was just not acceptable. Waiters not proficent in English. Makeover is nice. Had to pay for parking, street noise was extreme.
Although the hotel was fine, I noticed a small problem with my bill resulting from my charging breakfast to my room on two different days. The charges that I approved in the restaurant were not the charges that appeared on my hotel bill - guess which was higher. Although I'm only talking about a few bucks, I think this is an unethical practice. I called the manager and left a message but he never returned my call.
The Durant is very well situated, close to UC Berkeley campus and is a convenient walk to pretty much any university location. This is an old but elegant hotel. The rooms are well decorated and clean but somewhat small by today's standards. Some of the rooms on the upper floors have a very nice view of the city and the bay. The hotel is situated right outside UC Berkeley campus.
