We stay on the island every summer at a home near Southeast Lighthouse and come back in the Fall for a long weekend at the Surf, The Surf is like a home you love to come back to to relive fond memories. The breakfasts are wonderfull, Lorraine and her family are great, the dogs are fun and the location is unbeatable; so what else is there to make a vacation!!!!!

The Best Vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/05
The Surf is like summer camp for grownups and families. We've been staying at the Surf since 1981, and return every summer from Colorado now. The location couldn't be better. Every evening in the lobby, some kind of game including persons of all ages is ongoing - hotel guests mix with each other and a family atmosphere is encouraged. The ...
Wow! Someone trying to push away business here??? Upon my calling for reservation info, a woman answered the phone, I said "Hi, how are you?" (No response). I asked if there was any availability for a weekend in August? "We have a SIX night minimum for July and August" she said rather abruptly. I was a bit shocked, thanked her and hung up. Not a very warm person - I think we will stay clear of this establishment in the future.

rude staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/12/05
I also experienced a rude woman on the phone when I inquired about some rates and other options on the island. She was not helpful and made me feel I shoudlnt have even called. I chose somewhere else on the island with friendlier staff. I would not waste my time with this hotel just from the staff alone!! Most people want your business....
Block Island and the Surf Hotel is for me,the closest to paradise one can get. It brings back wonderful memories of growing up, which I have passed on to my own children. Lorraine and her family (including "canine cousins") have always been more than welcoming, hospitable, and generous. It's the one place on earth one can truly feel at home and at peace.

Such a GREAT time!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/05
My boyfriend and I just enjoyed a 2 night stay at the Surfside Hotel which is part of the Surf Hotel. The rooms were small, cozy and homey. The beds were made so pristine! What an amazing view! You are on the beach and Main street..can't get any better! Unlike the other noisy hotels this one is right there on Main Street but you can fall asleep ...
I have spent an entire week at the Surf Hotel for the past 3 years and absolutely enjoy my stays there. Lorraine's bark is worse than her bite:) Once you get to know her alittle, you'll find that she's okay. Her parents are so kindhearted! On my last day, her mom fixed my favorite breakfast (blueberry pancakes) especially for me:)

Great Memories
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/03/05
I used to stay at the Surf Hotel for 2 weeks each summer. I loved the time there, it felt like family. The same families would go the same weeks each summer and it was like a reunion. The location is awesome and there's nothing like sitting on the porch just relaxing, you have achoice of the ocean or the very interesting main St.

Keep it a secret

It is the best. I hate to tell people about it because it will get too crowded. The big decision everyday (besides food) is what deck to sit on. Do you want sun, shade, a twon view or a water view? The Cyr family has own this piece of paradise for 48 years. They treat you like family.
