I am in the middle of three generations that have been coming to the Surf yearly for 32 years. It is so very special to all of us and we will miss coming dreadfully - the Cyrs have been perfect hosts and the memories we will always have will bring us comfort as they take a well-deserved rest. It is extended family when we return each summer - a ...

A respite from the rush..
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/26/07
I have only been coming to this place for 12 years, so I am a relative baby compared to the people who have been coming for 25-30, even 40 years! We don't even rate a oceanside room yet. My son has grown up with the Surf (he is now 15). He is a bit of a wild child, but he immediately feels right at home every year and looks forward to the ...

Not What I expected!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/29/07
The location was great and just about everything else was great, except for the service. The staff was extremely rude. That made our overall experience an unpleasant one. I would never go back again.

thumbs down.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/07
The rooms were not clean and the receptionist was extremely rude and unwelcoming. You would think the owners would hire somebody with some people skills but instead they hired their daughter who could afford to take on another job that might require some movement. Maybe then she could get down to 300 lbs. She really ruined the experience. Will never return.
My first impression was that it was a nice little inn. Although the rooms were a lot smaller then I expected, everything was very neat and clean. However as a student I would have to advise anyone under the age of 50 to stay away. This inn seemed like a good place for an older generation but if you are fun and youthful, you should find a hotel that ...

nothing more than decent.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/07
When I climbed into bed at night my sheets were covered in sand. When I looked in the medicine cabinet I discovered that it was covered in rust. The receptionist (Lorraine) weighs in at 400 pounds and is one of the rudest people I have ever met. Surf hotel would greatly benefit from firing her. The hotel itself is decent but the attitude of ...

nice hotel, terrible receptionist
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/07
The hotel was pretty nice (although it would be more accurately described as an Inn) but the rooms were a little smaller than expected. The price is one of the best on the island but that doesn't make up for the horrifying personality of the receptionist. At about 300 pounds, this woman is obviously very angry at the world. Not only did she ...

Disappointing and Angry
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/07
There were many Inn's all in a row on the main road and I am very upset that we chose this hotel. The receptionist(owner?) was so mean to my party that we left early. Even though the location was nice, there were other places we could have stayed and had a more enjoyable vacation. I would recommend to anyone with children to choose another ...

One of my favorite hotels in the world
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/21/07
I have stayed at the Surf Hotel several times over the years since the late 80's. Am returning this year for the first time in about 8 years having been spending Memorial Day weekend on Cape Cod more recently and it was an either/or situation. This year my wife and I will be visiting both Cape Cod AND the Surf Hotel on Block Island on ...

Like staying at Fawlty Towers
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/07
We've been going for years, like most of the other people you'll meet there. We're a big family. The location can't be beat; but you need to be able to enjoy eccentricity. This place is quirky. You'll either love it or hate it. If you're looking for a 5-star spa experience, this is the wrong place. Easy-going people with great senses of humor will love it.
