Whatever happened to Welker's Lodge? I remember in the early 1980's when this was Welker's Lodge. We had to cancel our reservation the day before, due to unexpectedly having to cut our vacation a bit shorter than planned. I recall how rude the owners back then, were about it. They refused my refund, and acted as if we were their only ...

Great for Snowmobiling!!

OK - first of all, this is not the Hilton, but if you are looking for the Hilton in the UP, good luck! We had a very spacious king room that gave us plenty of room for gear, bags and equipment! There is a gift shop and restaurant on site, but the restaurant needs to improve their breakfast selection to be competitive with other town ...

Just what we were looking for
By horphan, 12/03/05
North Shore Lodge was just what my husband and I were looking for.....quiet, simple seclusion. The lodge itself was not fancy and had no frills - it was basic and fairly outdated but it was clean, quiet and comfortable with a charm all its own. There are no phones in the rooms and no A/C (temps are so low in the evening you don't need it). ...

Our bathroom in room 22 had two mushrooms growing out of the floor. The flies were numberous and we over paid. We tried to work something out with the owner Bill Ramsey but we was NO help. North Shore Lodge is a DUMP!

Do Not Go Here!!!!!!
By gogolf4u, 07/28/05
We paid $80.00 including tax for two adults and two children ages 3 and 5. The room was just aweful!! It was very outdated 1970's. It had brown shag carpet. It did not have a mirco or frig. The ceiling tiles moved up and down when we opened the window for air. No air conditioning. The pool was very dirty and my son's hair smelled ...

Great Location, poor service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/21/05
Great trail access, right on Lake Superior, beautyful. Service was awful, average wait time for a meal 1.0 hr + and that's after waiting 20 minutes for a drink. Owner needs to hire more weekend help.

Been going there for 28 years!!
By christine73171, 05/23/04
I have been returning to Grand Marais for 28 years. My parents used to take me up there since I was 3 and I love it. I love the original Welker's Lodge and the new North Shore Lodge, it is a second home to me.
