Very luxurious hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/01/08
The Westin is a very nice hotel. The pool was great after a long day of sightseeing. There is a shuttle from the Kyoto Station, but the pick up is hard to find and we took a taxi to the hotel from the Station because we didn't know about the shuttle. The Starwood website never mentions where the shuttle goes to. The staff were very helpful and ...

it was neat also i liked the pool and it was clean and the beds were comfy also i liked the friendly room service people
It's not that great to look at from the outside, that's for sure, but this 200+ year old hotel is gorgeous on the inside. Staff is extremely courteous and helpful. They seem to constantly be undergoing construction, but it's not too noisy.
Location is good, right above a subway stop. They also offer a free shuttle service to the ...

The bird trail is one of the most amazing things I have ever done. Wake up early and you will be the only one on this 45 min loop trail through the mountains behind hotel. Sunrise is so peacefull with fall colors. Great location and service. Remember your in Japan dont exepect everyone in hotel to speak english.

Great value; helpful, attentive staff. It is in a quiet neighborhood away from the heart of the city, making for a very quiet and tranquil setting. At the time of our visit they offered both western style rooms, and more traditional Japanese accomodations for businessmen which were less expensive. We chose the latter (we were striving to ...

Wish we never went.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/06
It was very unclean, and the service was sloppy. I love the location, but it was too costly also - We ordered a wake up call for eight-thirty, I belive it was (or around that time) and the wake up call was 30 minutes late, causing us to miss our tour we had schuduled later that day.
We stayed in the traditional Japanese ryokan room which is in a garden behind the hotel. It was just great-very different from American hotel rooms. The beds are in the closet and they put them down at night. it was wonderful.
This is a 300-year old hotel bought over by the Westin, & renovated within the last 2/3 years. Rooms were spacious & clean; staff was attentive, helpful & spoke good English.
We spent a jet-lagged morning taking an easy hike on the nature trail behind the hotel. Hotelgrounds were beautifully maintained.
Though the hotel was located aways ...

Nice western hotel, musty rooms
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/11/05
The hotel was clean and well run. However when we checked in to our room, we turned on the A/C and a strong smell of mold came out. We immediately called the front desk who was super-friendly and tried to find us another room - in fact we tried 3 more but all were musty. The as accommodating as they could be but the A/C units all needed maintenance. We stayed 2 nights anyway but probably wouldn't go back.
