My family and I went to visit Surabaya in 2005. A friend recommend this hotel highly, so we stayed there for a week. It situated in the middle of town, so everything is within a walk away. The Majapahit was built in 1910 by the Sarkies family who also built Raffles hotel in Singapore. This hotel is more beautiful and atmospheric than Raffles as well as far less touristy. The room rate is also about 80% less. The rooms are huge and very nicely furnished and maintained whilst the public areas are simply stunning. The restaurant "Sarkies" is the best in East Java. I cannot reccomend this hotel more highly.
