Likes: the staff and the fact that it's safe. The gardens are magnificent. Loads of birds, trees, flowers. Also the internet access is the rooms works surprinsingly well (cost: 810 birrs/week - 510 birrs /24 hrs). It's a broadband connection which is hasslefree (no codes to enter - just plug in the network cable and pay at reception at the ...
This hotel is as old as the hills and very over priced. The rooms are very old and date, you think you have taken a time warp back to the 1950's. My wife and i arrived at 3am from the airport we had pre-booked but when we were shown to the room there was 2 single beds. Also running water is only available at certain times of the day and when ...
It is a government run hotel and therefore the most incompetent.... there are other hotels in Addis, a website called www.ethiopianhotelsguide.com lists more than 320... it is quite helpful.
We were in Addis to pick up the newest member of our family and stayed at the Ghion and the Hilton.
At the Ghion we had a Riviera room for the majority and a room in the main hotel for 2 of the nights.
main hotel rooms were $89 USD for double occupancy for either two twin beds or one queen. There are one bedroom suites available for $110 ...

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/06/08
Let me start by saying the Ghion is good value for money. The rooms are fine. The plumbing is SLOW. The meals good. The bar good. The shops at the GHION however are shisters, cheats, thieves, disreputable and should be disqualified by the Ghion management. As usual our complaints went unheralded such is the Ethiopian way. Be warned do not do any ...
The Ghion overbooked and "lost" our reservation. We were able to get one night there, but ended up at the Hilton for the rest of the trip... quite a fortunate mistake, since the Hilton is much better, albeit much more expensive. Instead of putting us in one of the regular rooms in the newer building, we were stuck in one of the ...

Great gardens, average value..
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/04/07
My wife and I enjoyed our first 4 days in Ethiopia at the Ghion. It was a good start to the holiday because the hotel boasts some beautiful gardens, which really cannot be found anywhere else in Addis. It is a real haven from the bustling city.
The price was the reason we changed hotel, because we were on a tight budget, but it is definitely ...
