The Northwoods Inn is a wonderful historic hotel with tons of charm. The staff seem to be very helpful and welcoming. The hotel is going through some renovations now but the most important thing has been addressed. The bed is SO comfortable. It is a tempurpedic mattress.
The food was also very good and I loved their bar. BEST OF ALL was the LOCATION!! Directly in the center of town. I will be back.
The location and price are key. This is a value hotel with plenty of room. If you get a room with a Main Street, 4th floor, southern location you'll have a great view of Mirror Lake and a fun idea of what's happening on Main St.. You'll also get (for good or for bad) some of the bar scene, soundwise. I'd skip the restaurants and go for the "Brown Dog" - exceptional. Anyway, we got what we paid for and were very happy.

Cut your loss

We were told that our check in would be 4pm. We arrived about 3pm and our room wasnt ready. We ended up in our room about 530pm. First of all, the balcony rooms face the wrong way, they face the hill and have no view. For the rooms that have a view of the lake, dont mind the roof of the buildings across the street. The hotel needs to get reovated. ...

buyer beware
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/06
Service was poor - staff unorganized - employees apparently either don't care - are under trained - or not empowered to meet the most basic guest services - the MOD was plain rude. My family was up for Ironman weekend - a busy time - and the hotel was not up for the challenge - we discovered later we were double billed on our rooms and couldn't be helped over the phone because they could not find our records.

Won't stay there again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/14/06
Originally offered a room with one bed for four people after pre-registering with a group for two beds. Hot water was at a minimum especially in the morning. Management very unfriendly. Not kid friendly at all. Elevator is the slowest in world. Pictures not accurate view.

funky old hotel with a great view

The Northwoods Inn is an experience, and I don't mean this in a negative way. We stayed in May, 2005 (I think it's since had some renovations).
Our room was pretty good--a nice-size suite with kitchen, two tv's, decent furniture, comfortable bed. The lobbies and common areas were a little downtrodden. The worst feature of all was ...

Way past it's prime
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/17/05
To be polite, the place was a dump. In need of a total overhaul from carpeting to the one elevator(which broke) and just about everything else. The saving graces were the staff who were great and the downtown location. A hundred a night for a hotel that must have had it's prime around 1950 and has done nothing since. Heard new owners were coming in. Let's hope they have deep pockets.

Go to the Hilton!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/17/05
We had to change rooms twice because the air conditioning wasn't working. The rooms and hallway had an ominous smell, and to make the trip complete the elevator broke as we were checking out, forcing us to carry our luggage down six flights of stairs.
The only saving grace of this hotel is its staff, who are beyond pleasant and extremely ...

Would not return!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/14/05
Toilet in bathroom was out of order and there was no one to fix it. Air conditioner leaked and floor on one side of the bed was completely saturated. The hotel was very pretty and the bed comfortable. While I realize that problems can occur, it would have been nice if someone there would have shown some concern for our discomfort. We did, finally, get a new room.
