I've stayed here several times over the past few years and can say the last time, October 2008, it has gone downhill. The caretakers have gotten even less friendly the longer they stay and the level of cleanliness was the most noticable difference. The showers have mildewed grout and the dust is accumulating (black) around the air vents in the ...

The hotel is clean and if you follow every rule the managers have set (many are not posted on the website) you may be happy there. Know that the managers are very strict. You also should know this is not a real Bed and Breakfast and there is minimum service. You will not get help with heavy bags even if you have to go up the stairs. Basicly you ...
Very cozy which is great when there is snow and ice all around, they even have internet. It is close to the airport not that you have to deal with traffic.

Great Hotel in Barrow, Alaska
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/12/07
The King Eider is just steps from the airport. The room we had was lovely and clean with a view out the back of the real Barrow, Alaska. Be ready to take your shoes off when you come into the hotel (so the floors are nice and clean). The sauna closes early so check the times. Tourists miss much if they only visit touristy places. Talk to the ...
The King Eider Inn was a very pleasent surprise. We stayed in the 'Presidential Suite' for the evenings of 6/28/07 and 6/29/07. What a nicely appointed and clean sanctuary. The facility has no food services, but the suite has a full kitchen (sans conventional oven, but with a microwave and cooktop) so in-room dining can be a home cooked ...

This is an interesting place. It is the cleanest hotel in Barrow (because you can't wear your shoes into the hotel). This hotel has a few desceptive things, like a $25 fee if you have a kitchenette and don't wash a coffee cup. It is a non alcohol or smoking facility, with huge fines if caught. Barrow is a "damp" community ...

Very Cool
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/09/07
Staffed/owned by two of the nicest people. They were not only helpful but knowledgeable of the area and things to do. Not bad for a couple from Florida!
The rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable, and very close to the airport.
If I ever am lucky enough to return to Barrow, I will definately stay at the King Eider.

Absolutely fabulous!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/19/06
The King Eider one of the finest hotels I have stayed in since moving to Alaska 3 years ago. I would take another trip to Barrow just so I can stay there. Extremely clean, very kind and friendly staff. The no liquor and smoking policy is wonderful. I enjoy the show removal which gives a visitor a more home like feeling. The price is a bit much per ...
The staff are more than friendly. Perhaps some of the cleanest hotel rooms you willever stay in. The "shoe removal at the door" policy is fabulous. (A fresh pair of slippers are offerered at the door).

We had booked a room on the internet in advance for a quick visit north of the Artic Circle, and talked to them advance, but when we got there, the room was more expensive than what we were told, and we had to insist upon the kitchenette room we had requested, which they were not going to give us, and then they upped our rate anyway. The rules are ...
