The superb location of this hotel can not be denied. It is the only hotel in the Colombo area right on the coast. It also has history on its side. However, Western tourists should only stay in the Regency (new wing) portion of the hotel; the Classic Wing (original wing) is truly awful in terms of worn carpets, bathroom facilities out of the 1960s, ...

Food: Pretty good meals served in lovely sea-side gallery

I changed rooms 3 times in 24 hours. My first had one tiny window overlooking the rooftops, the second was full of cockroaches the third was acceptable. Galle Face is in dire need of a bit of tlc. I much prefer the Mount Lavinia for a bit of colonial grace. My opinion, tired, not very clean and over-rated.

I found this very good overall. Most of all very nice and helpful staff.

And as a general Sri Lankan people are very friendly, hospitable and helpful.
