I've always heard great things about the Hotel San Jose and being familiar with South Congress Street, know it to be in a great location, which is why it's hard to write anything negative about the place. I'll let my review do the talking:

The place was clean and the decor simple and nice. It's close to entertainment, shopping, and dining. I recommend this hotel. Oh yeah--I stayed in a room with a great rate.

I work in the hotel business (boutique) and wherever I travel, I like to stay in something OTHER than a chain hotel. This is a great hotel! This Hotel is very cool maintained beautifully by independent owners (no chains). It's located next door to Jo's a cool coffee/beer stand that's open early/late. The Hotel provides cool handmade soaps and shampoo/conditioner. You can even use the flip flops to strole their many garden pathways. Tres chic!

My only complaint about the hotel is that it's always packed making it hard to make a reservation! The place is clean. Hip. Great location. Overall the best hotel I've ever stayed at.

Charming, hip, cool & trendy. Excellent nightlife. Streamlined, clean room. Great neighborhood. Close to restaurants, bars, shopping, ice cream & Town Lake & downtown. We can't wait to go back.

The Hotel San Jose was great. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The first night we got there, we got a couple of drinks and lounged in the courtyard area. The rooms are very comfortable.
