Had a two day stay in May of 2004. The place is close to the party scene. Has a long Austin history. Service was decent, but by No Means out of the ordinary.
Neighborhood has charming aspects and trendy shops.
Room was comfy...bed was o.k.
LOTS of noise from the constant traffic along the street-- if ya like the smell of exhaust ...

How Different

I stayed in this hotel back when it first opened, years ago. We had come in for a quick weekend trip and found this cozy little hotel to be the best part of the trip. The whole feel of the place is one of relaxation and it makes you want to take up permenant residance. I have recommended this place of zen to all of my friends and travelers heading ...

visit Austin in style
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/05
Is there really any place better to stay in Austin? From Hotel San Jose, you can skip across the street to see live music at the Continental Club, walk a block south to chow down on fabulous mexican food at Guero's... or you can stay in and enjoy the amazing service and wine bar right at the hotel!
Of all the places to soak up the cool Austin downtown vibes, The Hotel San Jose is the most comfortable. The hotel has a fab design, including interesting art in the rooms and great views to and from the balconies. With a lounge and pool among a well-xeriscaped decor, the most interesting and cool Austinites mingle with lucky visitors.

On vacation in my own town...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/15/05
I love this place! I send as many young hip and trendy visitors to this hotel. When I visit this hotel, the heart of the SoCo trendy neighborhood, I always feel like I'm on vacation.
Sitting in the courtyard having a cold cocktail makes you feel like you've left your stressful life and have found peace for a couple of hours. I always feel like I'm on holiday when I arrive here even if its just for a short visit.

Relaxing space for drinks in SoCo
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/13/05
I love to have a glass of wine and chat with a friend at the San Jose. It's art deco design and open feel is warm and welcoming. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford to stay there for a night.
