My husband and I enjoyed our honeymoon at Birchwood in November, 1973. This year we celebrated our 36th anniversary and searched the web to see what Birchwood is like today. We were sorry to learn it is closed. We really enjoyed Birchwood as a honeymoon resort -- having a private cabin with a fireplace and canopy bed was great -- we enjoyed the ...
We spent our honeymoon at Birchwood in March 73. We were just kids (at 18!) but have wonderful memories of our week there. After 37 years together, we would have loved to return. We won the newlywed game and cherish our pics playing basketball on roller skates. Wonder if that's why we ended up with 7 kids who all love and play basketball??? ...
I am so sad to hear that Birchwood had closed, Caole and Wally made it a family type resort. My wife and I honeymooned there in May of 1965 We've been back at least 10 times each time it was great. The food and The Red Baron Inn...what a night club we dance till closing, I was going to surprize my wife and take her back for our 45th Anniversary, but alas all good things come to an end...We'll always remember Birchwood!!!
We used to visit yearly from 1982 till it closed. It was the best couples resort. we are so sad that it has closed down. It's like a part of us is missing. We talk about the good times we had all the time. At least we have the fond memories of a wonderful experience. Wish someone would bring it back.
we vacationed at Birchwood 3 times in the 80's On our second trip the resort treated us to an aircraft tour of the surrounding area. after that I had earned my private pilots license and returned by air Drove through last summer, it was sad to see the place closed but the memories came rushing back. It seems like someone could restore Birchwood and be successful.
We spent our honeymoon there in 1963 and although it was for us expensive but worth every penny. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating and the food and general appearance were first class. We returned 4 times since then and could see the handwriting on the wall that it would be closing. We would love to go back again if someone were to open it and bring it back to the way it was.
I am so sad to hear this resort has closed. Today is my 20th anniversary, we honeymoonded there July 22, 1989. I was so so so hot!!! I remember us saying we would like to return in the winter, and go snow mobilling. ha. Well, I was plannig to make a 20 & 1/2 year resercation for that today for a anniversary present in the winter so we could snow mobil there. Well, I guess that will not happen. so sad:(
We are so sad to hear that this wonderful resort has closed. I have been trying for years to get some information about this resort as we honeymooned there in August 1964. We would like to go back for a second honeymoon 45 years later only to find that they are closed. So sad to hear! I welcome any comments from others who may have honeymooned there in the 60's.
We were married in May 1974 and it was a wonderful experience. During that time it was a honeymoon resort and we were the only African American guests. Seating was assigned in the dining room and we arrived first. We decided to move our seats to a table for two. We sat down and were immediately set upon by wait and kitchen staff who asked if we ...
