  • beware the trains
    By paul, 03/31/08
The rooms were nice and clean and very comfortable. Getting assistance from the housekeeping was very difficult and the worse part of the stay was the trains. The trains ran behind the hotel and beginning at 5:00 am you could hear and feel the train come by several times a day. We ordered food at poolside and forty minutes later they returned ...

  • Amtrak
    By Sue M, 01/16/08
At first, the Fess Parker Doubletree appears to be a nice place to stay. The concierge was helpful. We had an oceanfront room. All was well until we were awakened some time around 4 am by a train whistle. The next night, same thing. We asked the manager to relocate us to more insulated room. This muffled the sound of the train whistle some ...

  • HORRIBLE HOWLIES
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/24/07
LOUSY FRONT DESK SERVICE. WE HAD AN UPPER FLOOR ROOM AT OVER $400/NIGHT FOR SPECIAL OCCASION. THERE WAS A FAMILY OF FOUR ABOVE US, TWO OF WHOM WERE UNDER 5 - RUNNING IN THE ROOM UNTIL 2 IN THE MORNING. THE FRONT DESK WOULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT (THEY HAD OBVIOUSLY PAID MORE FOR THEIR ROOM THAN WE HAD). WHEN WE CHECK OUT IN THE MORNING, I ASKED ...

  • Hugely Dissappointed
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/29/07
First thing you need to know about this property is that aside from the vast, poorly landscaped asphalt parking lot which surrounds most this class B- hotels "mountain view" rooms, you then have to look beyond the very active Amtrak line which appears to run adjacent to and all along most of the property's eastern boundary. But then ...

  • Comfortable night
    By Sandra, 01/28/07
We enjoyed our stay at Fess Parkers. We were only there one night, but we ate at the Cafe for dinner and our waiter Dominick was a real pleasure. We had drinks and listened to the piano player and then slept in the most comfortable bed ever. The pillows were so good I came home and found them online and ordered them!
    Sincerely,
    Sandy P

  • Poor Value
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/06
The location is great, but not worth the price. Aside from location and room size, we could have had the same thing at a Motel 6 at 1/4 the price. The restaurant service was beyond terrible and in room dining took almost an hour to arrive. The rooms are very poorly insulated. You can hear kids running up and down the hall at all hours. No ...

  • Unsanitary, Unsafe for children
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/19/06
We visited with our two small children and encountered two serious problems. Within minutes of checking into our room, we found a comb full of hair, a bent coat hanger, and a capsule of prescription medication lying on the floor! We then went to the pool only to discover a naked toddler splashing about merrily. We left the pool and returned an ...

  • Best in SB for the Money You Spend
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/07/06
Courteous service from the moment you arrive, a beautiful oceanside location, convenient dining, gorgeous grounds, well-appointed rooms with everything you could ask for, and many other features too numerous to mention make Fess Parker's Doubletree the best you can find in Santa Barbara for what you spend. My wife and I have been coming here ...

  • Stay Nowhere Elese
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/02/06
First things first...yes, I know this is on the high end of the spectrum of hotel room prices. So, if you're trying to be cost conscious, this is not the place for you. If, however you want to indulge, stay here. The staff is friendly (the dorrmen knew our names when we'd head out for dinner) and very helpful (whether booking a tour, ...

  • great & pet friendly!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/10/06
An upmarket pet-friendly hotel - what could be better? Pet rooms are on the ground floor, with ample grounds to walk your dog. Our pup was greeted with her own little gift bag in addition to the ones we got with fresh cookies baked locally. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, the grounds & pool were very nice, & the restaurant's breakfast was overwhelming! We would definitely go back.
