The hotel smelled like an old age home. The carpet needs to be replaced. It was stained and dirty. The bathroom floor in our room needed to be scrubbed good. The bathrub was sticky and the room seemed dirty. We lvoed Carmel but would not stay at La Playa again.

As residents of Northern California, we have been staying at the La Playa for years. I love being so close to the ocean, walking through the lovely garden, and relaxing in the quaint European style rooms. Very nice hotel with great location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/10/04
Early 1900's restored hotel. Beautiful gardens and pool. Good restaurant and bar. Some rooms can be a bit small, but all garden rooms are spacious and comfortable. Service is attentive and professional. Location is convenient to all points of interest and walk to Ocean Blvd shops and restaurants. Would stay there again and have many times.

Perhaps we should have been tipped off by the ceiling fan and large portable room fan in the closet, but operating both at full speed still brought no relief. This room should be converted ...
