  • Don't miss breakfast at Luques.
    By MAYER, 07/07/08
My family didn't stay at the Chancellor but we stumbled upon Luques restaurant in the hotel, when we saw the line waiting to get into Sears pancake house down the street.
For gourmet breakfast at reasonable prices try Luques. The breakfast was so good we came back.

  • We're coming back!!!
    By OrangeNation56, 09/06/07
Let's put it this way...we loved our 2006 stay at the Chancellor so much, we're coming back for spring break 2008, and we're bringing our two adult kids and their spouses with us! Wes (general manager) Tyler is one of the sharpest hotel management folks I've ever encountered. He made sure our stay was a pleasant as it could have ...

  • AAA rip off
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/28/06
Room was fine, however, we booked through AAA and got a discount rate, but upon arrival they gave us the discount for only half of our stay and then upped it $40 per night for the other half. Weasels! I would never stay there again, especially with so many other hotels in the same area.

  • It's Good-Some Things Never Change
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/06
Our family has been staying at the Chancellor since before WW2. The hotel has always been consistent in the things that matter-service, courtesy and taking care of the little things that make all the difference. Luques Restuarant is better than ever and the location cannot be beat. There may be hotels as good as the Chancellor in San Francisco, but ...

  • Great Location, Value, Service and Cookies!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/26/06
Great place with lots of character; a little older and quaint. Great service. Free homemade cookies; no A/c though so be aware. We didn't need it. Free gourmaet coffee in the lobby. Enjoy!

  • Great city, great hotel
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/08/06
This hotel is great - located right at Union Square and spitting distance from places that are 3 times as expensive. We had a lovely room that was clean and comfortable. Hotel staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful. This is a wonderful place to stay.

  • Nice hotel
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/27/06
This is a great hotel. Small, friendly, with a very helpful staff. The rooms aren't large, but they are clean, well stocked with towels, etc. One half block from Union Square and right on the cable car line. We would stay there again without any question. Also, they valet parked our car without any problems, no scratches, dents, etc. A great value.

  • Perfect Location!
    By Dev Datta, 09/25/05
Perfect location for weekend in the city, located right off Union Square. Very good values can be had too. Rooms might be a little small for some tastes, but how much time are going to spend in your room with so much to do in the city!

  • Union Square
    By Lavender Rhiannon, 09/24/05
This hotel is in a fabulous location within the Union Square area. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are nice. The hotel is from 1912, and reflects the Edwardian style. The rooms are on the small side, but comfortable and beautiful.

They run great off-season specials, and the bar has good happy hour specials. You cannot beat the location, which is on a cable car line and a half-block from Union Square.

  • Great Location...Great Price
    By The Santa Barbarian, 09/16/05
Love the tubs and the rubber duckies. Location is prime without paying prime rib prices. Right on Powell and just steps away from Union Square and shopping.

    The gym access is amazing.
