I loved staying here when i was in the Navy. It was a great affordable way to take a high class vacation. It would be better if it were open to all veterans not just those who retire.

Best Beach on Waikiki
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/06
As Military on a budget the Hale Koa was our only choice. What we discovered was the hotel offered a very relaxing atmosphere that was very tropical and beyond our expectations. A cafeteria for budget meals, plus a restaurant, picnic and barbeque area next to the beach. I would stay here again rather than the Hilton next door.
I enjoyed the location and the facilities available and the surprisingly easy access to all other areas of the "keys". This hotel provided a much needed quiet location for relaxing after the days activities...the room was one of the best I ever had.

You can't find a better location on Waikiki Beach and certainly nothing cheaper. Definitely one of the best perks of military life. I'm bummed that we only got to stay there once before being done with the Navy.
It is right on the beach, huge property, and has everything you will need for a great vacation. For, people in the Miltary I recommend it because it allows you to have all the hawaiian luxuries on an affordable budget. It is close to the Waikiki nightlife but also has all the amenities for a family vacation.

I stayed at Hale Koa two weeks ago for my honeymoon. We LOVED it. Don't worry about it looking "too military" as I thought it would. It is just like all the other hotels around it, but at half the price. The location is tremendous, and the restaurants are very good. We loved Koko's for room service breakfast. The laua, with ...
