This place is old and the architecture appears to be from the 50's but my room was updated and clean. I just needed a bed, clean sheets and a helpful front desk and thats what I got. It was cheap and I like cheap. The hotel was clean and cheap, thats all you are going to get.

Due to a lack of available rooms in San Diego at the time of my visit I by chance found a room at the Downtown Lodge and was pleasantly surprised. While the exterior is some what dated the room was quite refreshing and clean. the price was an excellent value and the property is well located. I would stay there again. I would recommend it to others.

This is an old place with peeling paint and wall paper.
Overall cleaniness is fine.
Value would be better with complementary breakfast.
