Cairns Colonial Club was listed as a 4-star, but was far from that. The place was outdated. They call themselves a resort yet do not offer 24/7 room service. The bars close at 10:30pm. Is not situated anywhere close to the city, so you have to take a taxi cab to get anywhere. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner you have to make reservations, even ...

This resort reminded me of the Dirty Dancing film set, overall it is a little bit dated probably one of the older style resorts. Stayed in one of the superior rooms at the back of the complex could not fault it, clean, modern, nice furnished balcony to sit out and enjoy views of one of the complexes 3 lovely pools. Lots of sunbeds and sunshine in ...

Fabulous natural pool
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/09/07
The hotel reception area, shops, restaurants and fantastic pool all wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the rooms need a great deal of TLC as i agree with a couple of reviews that there was a distinct unpleasant smell wafting up from the carpets. This is the only thing that let the whole ambiance of the hotel down. Our ...
I found myself in Queensland Australia in a little town called Cairns (pronounced Cans). My travel agent arranged for me to stay at this place....and it was enjoyable. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpfull (as are most people in Australia)and were always very helpfull with any questions I had. I loved the whole rain forest setting of ...
Agree with aother review, the place is made very well. The miniature walks through the forest to the breakfast room are very nice. The rooms though could use a lot of sprucing up as there are smells. The staff is friendly but sometimes slacks off on service calls. They have great pools.

bad rooms, good pools
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/05
The pools and the restaurants were nice at this hotel, but the rooms were appalling- smelly, grotty and very small, with very old furnishings. Cairns itself is lovely, don't miss scuba diving on the reef.

Wish I could go back!!!

The place is beautiful and absolutely gorgeous!!! Every morning on the way to breakfast, you can take a beautiful walk through a miniature rainforest on your way to the dining room. The dining room is excellent with fresh fruits every day. I loved it!

The best hotel I stayed in Australia
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/04
The rooms in this resort are absolutley gorgeous. The grounds are beautiful and you can find the most interesting mammals just sitting on your doorstep. Its next to a soccer field so kids can play soccer and close to the Great Barrier Reef and the Cairns Mall and the Rainforest. They have great food and survices such as computers, pools, and game rooms. I would recomend it to everyone!
