The front desk staff are very efficient, helpful, and professional. I have visited this hotel numerous times over the past year and have gotten consistently good service. This hotel is by far better than the Novotel. Although the pool is located away from the hotel grounds, it has a beautiful view, and again, the staff is very responsive and attentive to the customers.

A Safe Haven To Rest
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/26/07
Traveling to Dakar for the first time, I did not know what to expect. What I got was more upon arrival than expected. The hotel staff were the most gracious, polite, and friendly people I've ever met. In fact, they were the most friendly people I've experienced in a hotel staff ever.
The hotel is beautiful, and offers all the comforts ...

I didn't expect so little value for money. The room was small, windows have not been cleaned for weeks, and the bath tub didn't empty. Called room management twice to get rid of the pool of water in the room - nobody came. Swimming pool was closed. Finally, I found that 'someone' had opened a confidential envelope in my ...

No real alternative other than Le Meridien
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/09/06
The hotel is struggling to perform to international stadards. As most of the staff is from west-africa it is a difficult goal to achieve. Training is needed for staff and personnel. The carpets smell in the hall ways and power cuts appear to be endemic. Although it is far from perfect and the standards are not matching the price one pays for a room ...

Better than Before
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/05
The other reviews of this hotel must be a little older, because my recent (last week!) stay at the Sofitel Teranga suggests things have gotten better. The rooms have been recently renovated and they are at least at the level of a Hilton/Hyatt/etc in the US with new furnishings, very modern bath, minibar, safe, in-room internet connections, cable ...
The Sofitel is better than the alternatives in downtown Dakar. Novotel isn't bad, Independence is terrible, but as a choice of lesser evils, the Softel wins out. The food is usually good, the views are nice, but the AC is hardly adequate, the staff can be snobby, and the rooms are not always cleaned well or in a timely fashion. But, as I said, ...

Very adequate
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/06/05
I found this hotel to be clean and well managed. The rooms were very adequate and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very efficient. The breakfast buffet was superb with a wonderful choice of foods and a cook to meet any need not readily available. The only draw back was the pool that is sitauted across the road however, access is by way of ...

RIP-OFF
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/27/04
Sofitel Teranga Hotel in Dakar should not be rated above 2/3 stars. The hotel is overpriced at $ 235.00 per night. There is only one restaurrant on the premises. The room so called de lux has an A/C that run on FAN only. The swimming pool is across the street from the hotel and it is open to the public for a fee. The pool was packed this summer ...
