The motel was booked by a family friend. Beyond the staff being aloof and inhospitable, the rooms were horrible. My NON-SMOKING room reeked of past smokers and bad cover-up spray. It Stunk!

Location was the only redeeming value for us with this hotel. Got maid service when we put out the sign, but then the sign disappeared, so that was the end of the service! When we DID get service, maybe the bathroom got cleaned up and we got fresh towels and cups, maybe not, we never knew what to expect. Only got two stations well on the TV, ...

When we first moved to Indiana from Chicago, we needed a place to stay for two months before our house was finalized. The Lew Wallace has very helpful management (they went out of their way to get us a refrigerator and discount our stay twice) and the rooms are basically spotless. While you can go and enjoy a good meal, a fair drink, or some awesome music some of the people there are terrible. Some of the regulars do not make your visit a pleasent one with clicks very apparent being an outsider becomes a bad thing. If you ever come face to face with Julie Morrison or her friend DeDe please walk away. The drama there isn't worth it!!!

While the rooms are cheap, you certainly get what you pay for. Not very clean and everything in the room is very old. Not very safe. While getting dressed, a maintenance man keyed right into my room without knocking. No apology from the hotel about the situation. The only good thing is the bar downstairs.

The Lew offers great service, good music, and a great atmosphere to hang out with old friends or make new ones. I would definitely recommend it as a place to relax and have a drink!
